BALI ECHO

When Bali Echo commissioned me to write ‘something different’ about the local culture, the challenge led me to a sacred ceremony in a jungle village. I watched, I wondered at what I had seen, I wrote “Under the Trance.”

When this story was published, the editor of Bali Echo received a record number of phone calls from readers that wanted to visit a traditional village. I then wrote a series of articles about the parts of Bali that tourists rarely see.

Guam Now Magazine, a publication that usually featured the guidebook tourists’ sights, accepted my stories about the local Chamorro culture and island lifestyle. The container house featured in Island Living was my home. I had a spacious garden with many of the plants featured in Chamorro Medicinal Plants, and Lovely Bunch of Coconuts. All stories for Guam Now were published in English and Japanese.
